Paonia Town Council

  • CDOT and Colorado State Patrol are asking drivers to follow lowered speed limits on Interstate 70 after a series of crashes caused extended closures on the highway. Paonia is losing approximately 10 gallons a water per minute due to a critical water leak under nearby railroad tracks, reports the Delta County Independent. Mesa County Valley School District may close three of its schools next year due to declining enrollment, reports the Daily Sentinel. The popular school loop of the River Park Trail near the Paonia K8 was recently closed to the public in-order to protect wildlife.
  • The Navajo Nation Police Department has received numerous missing persons reports that they have traced to addiction treatment centers in Arizona. Now they are warning tribal communities about recruiters. Voters in Paonia, Colorado narrowly passed a citizen initiated water moratorium in early 2020. The decision to cease selling domestic water taps came one year after the town ran dry in the winter of 2019. The crisis created a state of emergency for the town’s 1,400 residents and associated water companies.
  • Former Sunset Mesa funeral home director Megan Hess has asked the U.S. District Court to delay the Jan. 3rd sentencing date by at least 90 -120 days reports the Montrose Daily Press. Search giant Google has agreed to a nearly $400 million dollar settlement with Colorado and 39 other states in connection to how the company tracked users’ locations even when they opted out, reports the Denver Post. The Police Chief told the Paonia Town Council recently that his “department is currently responding to a mental health/suicide call for service approximately every other week”. Delta County Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement with the town of Orchard City for police coverage.
